The second film produced by the Port Arthur Amateur Cinema Society, Sleep-Inn Beauty is a comedy involving a bathing beauty contest and is based on a story adapted by Dorothea Mitchell. The Port Arthur Amateur Cinema Society produced the first feature-length amateur film in Canada in 1929. Mitchell was known as the "Lady Lumberjack." SleepInn Beauty was filmed in 1929 at Surprise Lake which is near Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay). Wally McComber (the "Goof" of A Race for Ties) played the leading man and Maye Flatt, the leading lady. Fred Cooper shared the photography duties with Lloyd Small and took a minor acting role. In addition, over sixty extras were bussed in from Port Arthur to take part.
