The Red Rock Bank Robbery - August 1963

Two 18-year old Red Rock men were charged with armed robbery after stealing $45,000 in cash from the Canadian Bank of Commerce in Red Rock, Ontario. After fleeing the scene, their getaway car was found 3 miles away in a bush near a CPR rail line. After concluding the men had taken off into the bush and not on a train car, a large manhunt took place to find the two young men. Due to the conditions and dangers, the manhunt was at one point called off. 25 officers helped with the search, including a Department of Lands and Forests aircraft, an RCMP tracking dog flown in from Winnipeg, and an RCMP police boat to search the shores of Lake Superior.
The two men eventually surrendered after a long and exhausting 10 day chase. They were arrested five miles east of Nipigon on Highway 17.

The full stolen amount of cash was eventually recovered two days after the suspects were captured and arrested.
